You know that going in. Sure it looks better. The lines are shorter, people have less items but there is so much more you just dont see, until its to late. Let me paint you a picture. Monday night, 9:00 pm and I need some air filters for the air conditioner. I really only have one choice of where to go and that would be Waddle Mart. Now the drive to the store is about 10 minutes tops and I find the air filters easily in about 5 minutes, so if you are paying close attention that puts us at about 9:15, at the latest. Arriving at the checkout lines I find that there are 2 regular checkout lanes (ones with actual employees doing the scanning) and a whole bank of self checkout lanes. The real lanes lines are way to long and the self checkouts are looking nice and short. So I place my bet and find the shortest lane. This lane has 2 waddlers (this means overweight women, they inhabit all parts of Wal Mart especially the self checkout lanes) with a whole pile of random shit. The kind of crap you would only put together in a cart if you were shopping at Wal Mart (examples: 8 pairs of shorts and one lean quisine meal). They get everything scanned in and are seconds from checking out when all hell breaks loose. For some reason every time I am in one of the lanes at Wal Mart inevitably the Cashier on Duty has to come over at some point, this was no exception. Of Course the cashier has no idea what the hell is going on. My favorite was when faced with a screen with 7 buttons all of which 1 was disabled she repeatedly pushed every single button except for the one that was highlighted. Needless to say her reckless button pushing of the wrong buttons did not remedy the situation and a new button pusher was called in. She did push the highlighted button but still couldnt figure it out. It was about this time I stopped caring and gambled again, moving to the next self help lane over. To sum up a story that is going no where, I ended up getting to within inches of checking out only to have the cashier on duty check me out. By the time I got to my car it was 9:45….. Like I said, self checkout… its a gamble and last night I lost big.
